Newmarket Craven Meeting - Wednesday
Flat racing is my personal preferred type of racing and it's a belting few days at Newmarket in the Craven of which many believe is the proper start to the flat season....
I'll start off with the 2.25 where the one I'd be willing to take a chance on is Seven Heavens for John Gosden and Frankie Dettori. He has pulled like a maniac on his last couple of starts uncluding the Dewhurt and it's hoped that he's calmed down a bit over the summer. A hood has been fitted for this and you can find him trading at a general 7/2. Whitecliffsofdover (9/2) has to be respected when just ahead of market leader Sir Dancealot over C&D here and also ran well in defeat in the Group 1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagarere. Majeste and Rodaini also should have more to come this season, 6/1 and 13/2 respectively. I'll be taking my chance of the Frankel offspring Seven Heavens (7/2) for John Gosden though.
The 3.00 is the Group 3 Earl of Sefton and its headed by Godolphin's Folkswood for Charlie Appleby and William Buick. I can see him putting him a big run here and justify his favouritism. He was progressive last season in handicaps and only just missed out on a Group 1 in Meydan last time out. Spark Plug won the Cambridgeshire last season and a reproduce of that run would obviously see him there or thereabouts. The Sir Michael Stoute pair in Autocratic and Abdon look to be too decent each way shouts at 6/1 and 7/1. Both showed good form last season, Ryan Moore will saddle Autocratic and Frankie Dettori on Abdon. Folkswood (11/4) is certainly the one to beat though for the Godolphin team.
Another Group 3 next in the Group 3 Neil Gwyn stakes and it is headed by an Andre Fabre raider in Pamplemousse. He won his only start at Chantilly and connections clearly think he has what to takes to handle this company, Andre has a brilliant record here too. It wouldn't at all be a surprise if he bolted up. Pierre Charles Boudot rides. AP O'Brien pair Brave Anna and Roly Poly set the form standard with their 1-2 in the Cheveley Park when lowering the colours of Lady Aurelia. Seamie Heffernan will be on board Brave Anna (7/1) with Ryan Moore on Roly Poly (4/1). Sea of Grace should have more to offer now moving to William Haggas following a Group 3 win for John Oxx. However there's going to be a certainly level of significance that Andre Fabre is sending this one over and with his fine record at the track it's hard not to side with Pamplemousse (7/2).
